HOW TO START A PRAYER CIRCLE IN YOUR CITY

IMG-20190119-WA0012.jpg

Our aim is to transform every city in South Africa by prayer! If your suburb or city is not yet part of this exciting movement and you feel called by God to start a Prayer Circle in your suburb or hometown, this page provides a step-by-step explanation on how to go about it.

Starting a Prayer Circle Movement in your city

If you start a Prayer Circle Movement in your city, you will be acting as the Prayer Circle Coordinator of your city. Your main function will be to establish a Prayer Circle in every suburb of your city and to handle the organizational aspects of the various Prayer Circles, as set out in the steps below.

Starting a Prayer Circle in your suburb

If your city already has a Prayer Circle Movement in place, and you wish to start a Prayer Circle in your suburb, you should contact the Prayer Circle Coordinator of your city to get on board. To see if your city has an established Prayer Circle Movement, view the Praying Cities. The leader of a Prayer Circle in a suburb is called a Cross Leader. The steps below explain how to start a Prayer Circle and what the role of a Cross Leader is. â€‹

Before you read the steps below, first read How we do it.

STEPS AND GUIDELINES TO START A PRAYER CIRCLE MOVEMENT IN YOUR CITY

STEP 1: Does God call you for the work?

If you wish to start a Prayer Circle in your city, the first step is to pray about it. We believe that God purposefully calls everyone who leads or joins the Prayer Circles. If you desire to bring God's Kingdom to your city and you feel God's call pressing on your heart, proceed prayerfully.

Keep this in mind:

A Prayer Circle Coordinator (leading a city) or Cross leader (leading a suburb) needs to:

  • Be called by God for the position;

  • Know God and have a relationship with Him;

  • Be willing and available for every Monday evening's Prayer Circle;

  • Be dedicated to the course of transforming your city by prayer;

  • Be humble and committed to do the work for the Kingdom and not for self-gain;

  • Have leadership and organizational skills.

STEP 2: Contact Head Office

If you are interested to become a Prayer Circle Coordinator, you should contact SA Prayer Circle's Head Office in Potchefstroom (North West Provence, South Africa) to have your name, contact number and city listed on this website. This will enable people to contact you to join the Prayer Circle Movement in your city.

Contact person: Hanri de la Harpe

Direct message: Click on the yellow chat box below.

Cell number: 083 280 3283.

Email: info@equilibriaschool.co.za.

Once your city and details are added to the website, you will start to receive the regular prayer points and information that you can share with the people that join the Prayer Circles in your city.

STEP 3: Get started!

  • Identify a park: To start the first Prayer Circle in your city, identify a park in the suburb you wish to start.

  • Recruit people to pray: Spread the word and print flyers to create awareness. Start a Whats-App group (or any other social media) where people can receive the prayer points and reminders.

  • Plant a cross in the park: Obtain permission from your local municipality to plant a cross in the park at the place where your circle convene to pray. Pray to God for favor in this regard. For guidelines on how to make a cross, click here.

  • Send the prayer messages: SA Prayer Circles sends out an inspirational message every Sunday and a list of Prayer Points every Monday to all Coordinators. Once you receive them, you can send the messages to your Whats-App group every Sunday and every Monday. You can use SA Prayer Circles' messages and prayer points or change them to suit your city's unique problems.

  • Start praying: All Prayer Circles in South Africa get together every Monday 18h00 (summertime) and 17h30 (wintertime) and pray for 15 minutes. Keep the gathering short to make it sustainable for busy people. People take hands as a symbol of unity and pray aloud in a circle around or at the cross. An effective way to pray is to allocate one prayer point to every person in the circle. Remember to obtain cell numbers of new people and add their numbers to your Whats-App group.

Tips:

  • Change the settings on your Whats-App group to be 'admins only' to prevent people to comment on the group and irritate others. Call the group a Prayer Circle Broadcast Group (to indicate it is not a chat group).

  • Important: Send a personal welcome note to each new member of the Prayer Circle. Keep standard welcome messages on your phone.

  • If finances for flyers, posters and crosses is a problem, pray to God for sponsors. Since the beginning of this movement, God has richly supplied in all our needs!

STEP 4: Grow the Prayer Circle Movement in your city

Once you have one Prayer Circle up and running, you can start to grow the movement and establish other Prayer Circles. The aim is to cover your whole city with prayer by having an active Prayer Circle in every suburb of the city. This is an effective way to do it:

  • Recruit people to pray: Visit churches and tell them about the Prayer Circles. You can use this PowerPoint presentation. Remember, the strength of SA Prayer Circles' strategy lies in uniting all believers from different churches. At the end of the service, have a clipboard and pen ready to write down names, cell numbers and suburbs of people who wish to join. You can hand out flyers as well and put up a poster at the church's entrance

  • Appoint a Cross Leader: If sufficient people (about 5 - 7) in a suburb have joined, create a Whats-App group for them and pray that God calls one of them to be the Cross Leader of the Prayer Circle. You can ask on the group who wish to be the Cross Leader. Keep the points in mind that were mentioned in Step 1 on what it takes to be a Cross Leader.

  • Train the Cross Leader: Explain the new Cross Leader's role to him or her: (1) to attend the Prayer Circle every Monday, (2) to allocate prayer points to people, (3) to send the cell numbers of newcomers to you to add to the Broadcast Whats-App group.  Send a welcome note to newcomers.

  • Start the new Prayer Circle: Identify a park for the group to meet and plant a cross at the convening point. Send the location of the park to the people.

  • Start a Cross Leaders Group: Once you have established a few active Prayers Circles, create a Whats-App group for all the Cross Leaders. Keep them motivated and inspired for the great work they are doing for the Kingdom! Ask them to report back to the group every Monday with the number of people that have attended their Prayer Circles - this helps you to keep track of activities. â€‹

 Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.
