WHY WE DO IT

Ephesians 6:12

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Our cities in South Africa are falling apart. Our city infrastructures are run down and our municipalities are corrupt. Crime, drugs, prostitution, pollution, joblessness, poverty and various other evils abound in our cities.

We often think that these problems should be solved by others: the police, the community leaders, the people appointed to maintain law and order. But God created us to walk in authority on the Earth, to care for it and to be salt and light in a fallen world. If evil abounds around us, it is our responsibility, as believers and children of God, to fight against it.

Scripture states: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (I Peter 5:8).

Scripture warns us to be vigilant. All the enemy needs to steal and destroy our cities, is for believers to be passive and do nothing. In Christ, we have the power to reverse every evil on Earth: if we pray. The strongest weapon that we have to fight against evil is prayer. The enemy has no power against believers who pray in unity and in faith on a consistent basis. Matthew 18: 20: For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.

SA Prayer Circles says: STOP MOANING, PRAY!

Pothole in the road? Pray. Beggar at the traffic light? Pray. Demonstration in the streets? Pray. Pollution? Crime? Pray!

We want to see God's will established in our cities. Currently, the enemy seem to have free reign in our cities. That is why we plant a cross at each prayer convening point with the words As in Heaven, so in this city inscribed on the cross - to signify and proclaim that the area is being claimed back by believers for Jesus.

Sometimes we grow so used to a fallen world that we become unaware of knowing God's will for our lives and our city. But God declares in Jeremia 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Let us stay fixed on a vision of a city where kids can ride bicycles in the streets with no fear, where the needy are cared for by those who have, where leaders lead the city with godly wisdom, where the city's economy flourish but greed does not rule, where parks and streets are clean and beautiful, where all residents know the Lord and serve Him with all their heart, where families are happy and healthy, where joy, love and peace abound, where the sick and broken are healed, where crime is unknown, where the glory of God fills every corner of the city!

Impossible? With God, all is possible!

SA Prayer Circles is rolling out a powerful all-encompassing nationwide prayer strategy to take back our cities for Jesus. The aim is to transform South Africa through prayer, city by city, suburb by suburb, prayer by prayer. See How we do it.

2 CHRONICLES 7:14

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
